Welcome to Woodcut!
In this course you will learn how to design and print your very first woodcut!
Developed in China around the 5th century, woodcut is one of the oldest forms of printmaking.
Woodcut involves hand-carving a design into the surface of a block of wood—typically with gouges—leaving the printing parts level with the surface while removing the non-printing parts.
Once the design is “cut”, a layer of ink is spread over the carved design, and then pressed or “printed” on another surface like paper or fabric. The results are stunning, unique and unmistakable! Ready to try?
The most important thing you need is the DESIRE to learn!
You’ll also need a few simple carving tools, a piece of wood (even something found in your yard or garage!), some ink and finally a piece of fabric or paper for the final printing. Don’t worry, everything is clearly explained step-by-step inside the course.
